A Week-by-Week Guide to Food After Bariatric Surgery
While bariatric surgery is a fantastic weight-loss tool, figuring out what to eat in the weeks after your surgery can be tricky. Fortunately, there are clear guidelines that will help you adjust to your new stomach.
For the first couple of weeks, you’ll be recovering from the surgery. As your stomach starts to heal, you’ll want to stick with foods like broth, unsweetened juice, and the occasional protein shake. Over time, though, and over the following weeks you’ll be able to eat pureed foods, as well as softer foods like scrambled eggs and fat-free cottage cheese.
Eventually, you’ll be able to eat solid foods again, although you’ll still want to make sure you’re eating healthy foods that will get you to your desired weight. Take care not to fall back on old habits, and make sure to take supplements your doctor recommends.
