If you’re trying to lose weight, you probably think the most important measurement of your health is the number your bathroom scale gives you. However, there’s another measurement that can give you more information about how fit you are. It’s called the BMI, Body Mass Index number, and it can help you determine whether your weight and body fat are appropriate for your height.

There are a lot of BMI calculators online but, if you want to calculate your own BMI, all you have to do is divide your weight in kilograms by your height in meters. The resulting number is your BMI. A BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is considered a healthy weight, while a BMI above 30 means you’re obese.

The BMI isn’t perfect, though. It doesn’t take into account your body fat percentage, and it doesn’t work well for very tall people. The BMI calculations are also not accurate for children younger than 18.
