Lapband Evaluation and Possible Revision

Lap Band or gastric banding surgery was for years a very common option for weight loss surgery, it is a Saline Inflatable Silicon Band surgically tied around the top part of the stomach to cause early satiety, and sense of food restriction.

Being less invasive than gastric bypass surgery, and having acceptable results in general, it was one of the very common weight loss procedures done 10 years ago. But over the last 5-8 years many reports showed higher than expected complications, and failure rates, and with the introduction of Sleeve Gastrectomy, Lap Band surgery became a very uncommonly used weight loss procedure in the US. Dr. Mirza does not recommend the lap band surgery.

For those patients who have Gastric bands “Lap Band,” and are enjoying the restriction they provide and the weight loss they help maintain, we recommend to all of them to have a very close follow up with an experienced weight loss surgeon that monitor their bands, and address any issues that could be developing, we do not recommend the routine removal of a completely functional non-complicated Lap band, verified by an experienced bariatric surgeon, we rather recommend a close follow up. Dr. Mirza is a leading weight loss surgeon in Houston and is happy to evaluate your lap band and help you continue to enjoy its benefits while helping you diagnose, and address any issues as they arise.

What If My Lapband is Non-Functional, or Causing Me Medical Problems?

When Lapband patient sees no significant weight loss, or regain weight after losing, many options are available, including evaluation, and possible Revisional Surgery.

If you are a Lapband patient you may have issues, including and not limited to:
